ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London/ Nov. 1. . An anti-Irish League disturbance took place to-day in Londonimßry, Ireland. An announcement having been made that a Nationalist meeting- would be held in the Town Hall there this evening, a largo body of OQngeraen proceeded"* to ' the building imd' took forcible position of the hall. The meeting of Nationalist, was consequently put off.
It is announced that the Queensland Government have arranged with the Bank of England for the conversion into inscribed stock of £2,500,000' of four ’ ’ i per cent debentures issued in May last.
Telegrams to hand from Zanzibar state that the Hovas are evincing a desire to come to terms with the French/ and recently offered to treat for-a.cessa-tion of hostilities. The offer was accepted by Admiral Gallagher, and negotiations are now proceeding. The natives of New Guinea have, through Baron Maclay, requested the protection of Great Britain. A Sydney resident, writing to the Pall Mall Gazette, says that statesm e n are beginning to mistrust the annex ation policy, as people in the colonies appear to be careless in the matter.
