Prom Mr J, Hitch, in reference to procuring a new line of road through the Timaru Borough Council reserve to his land at Raincliff, ■ The Clerk was directed to reply stating , that the Board in again considering this matter, think that the expenses would be Considerable, especially as it is likely that the Borough Council or lessees will require the road to be fenced. Also to ask if Mr Hitch will ascertain upon what terms , the Borough Council or lessees will consent to parting with the land required for the road, and upon what terms the owner of the Raincliff property will allow of the ‘ Toad being taken through section 20226. THE KEA QUESTION. Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr C G Tripp, and carried—* That , , inasmuch as the Government has offered to aid local bodies in effecting the destruction r.f the kea parrot in their respective districts by a contribution of £ for £, this Board is willing to take measures for destroying the said kea to the extent of any contributions from the ratepayers for that special purpose, together with the i contributions from Government / above referred to, but the Board would not think it right to apply any of the general' funds of the district to such a purpose. Resolved —* That the opinion of the Board’s solicitor be obtained upon the ... following questions;—(l) Have Road Boards power to contribute any portion of. their funds, towards assisting ratepayers to kill keas. (2) If any money should be paid by any individual ratepayer to the Road Board for the express purpose of dertroying keas, have the. Board power to use the money so contributed for that purpose and to ask the Government for the contribution of £ for £ which it was stated in the General Assembly would be given by them to the local bodies for this purpose.’ 1 ' OVERSEER’S REPORT. The Overseer’s report was read and considered, when it was resolved that tenders be called for shingling the road to the Opuha bridge, and erecting a wing fence on the west approach to the bridge; also, to have the stones broken on the boundary road, and the formation trimmed up and improved. To write to Mr G I Hamilton, requesting his consent to the deviation of the road in sec--1 tions 28416 28417. -To write to the Chief Surveyor asking that a road be laid off opposite section 28417 from the North • Opuha nver to the Clayton road. To write tri" the Geraldine County Council asking if the Board’s application to have certain roads in the district proclaimed main roads under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act 1882 had been 'complied with, and if not, upon what grounds hae the application been refused.
