AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. TIM ABU, Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for tbe past week ending Saturday ai follows; Horses—The entries at their yards to-day consisted of over 50 horses, comprising about 35 good and medium draughts, the balanca> light harness: horses and hacks. On account of Mr W. O’Bryan, Timaru, they offered for sale a lot of as good mares and geldings as can be seen in South Canterbury, but they regret to have to report an extremely dull sale, and though the prices for those that were sold were good, there was not a demand for many of the lots. An extra good gelding was sold at £47, and a few others from £2B to £BS, For light harness horses and hacks the demand is dull, and prices much the same as last week, from £l2 to £lB. They Have sold privately during tbe week, on account of Messrs N, and W. Quinn, Makikihi, the Clydesdale entire horse, Earl of - Gowrie, Mr Edward Peat, of Christchurch, being the pnrehaser ; also, on account of Mr McCullough, Temuka, his Clydesdale entire, Lord Loftus, Mr M. Wightman being the purchaser. Sheep—They have no transactions of importance in store sheep to report. There are but few lots offering, now that the shearing season is approaching, and also feed becoming more abundant; m consequence, owners prefer taking the clip off before selling, A few lines of hoggets have been sold at ordinary rates. Fat sheep are keeping up in price, and may be quoted dearer this week, prime mutton being worth about 3d per lb, ; Cattle Cattle—They have sold a few lots of store steers at from £3 to £4 10s, but the demand is limited on account of the scarcity of feed just at present. Fat cattle are somewhat Better in price this week ; best quality Beef may be quoted at about 25s per 1001 b. Wool, Skins, Tallow, Hides—On Wednesday last they held tbsir usual fortnightly sale, at which they catalogued fully 800 skins, 2 bales of wool, a number of sacks of tallow and abont 20 hides. Best quality merino skins, from 3s 6d to 4s 7d ; crossbreds, 3s to 4s 3d ; medium, 2s to 2s ,9d ; sundry odd lots wool, from 4s to 6d per lb; tallow, from 2d to 2§d per lb; hides, from 3d to 3|d per lb. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sidney, Sept. 21. New Zealand wheat remains at 4s 3d* and New Zealand oats ali 2s 4d. Maine has advanced to 3s Id. Sugar Company’s No T pieces, per ton, £35. Adelaide, Sept. 21. Wheat is quoted at 4s 9d to 4s lOd, a slight decline compared with last week’s price. The market is steady, Flour has fallen 5s to 15s per ton. Town brand? are quoted at £lO 5s to £ll ; country ditto, £lO to £lO ss. The market for freight is without quotable change; ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 20. Wool sales—At 10-day’s auction • quiet tone again prevailed. The catalogued comprise 11.900 bales. Since the opening of the series 34,000 bale# have been withdrawn from sale. j Sept. 21. The total amount of wool catalogued since the opening of tbe present aeries is 299,000 bales. Colonial breadstnffs continue dull and declining. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is quoted to day at 43s , per 4961b5, a fall of Is Gd ; New Zealand wheat, ex store, remains at 40s to 445, Adelaide flour, ex store, 325, - ; Ihe quantity of wheat afloat has increaspd during the week by 500,000 quarters, the total to-day being set down at 1,760,000 quarters. At to-day’s wool sales 10,100 bak( were offered. A firmer tone prevailed, Tbe present series of sales close on th( 4th October, Sept. 22, ; Wool Sales Fine merinos am: crossbreds have recovered the June rate but medium coarse amt faulty are frori a halfpenny to twopence below Jam quotations. To date 320,000 balei have been catalogued, and. 37,000 with: drawn from sale.
