AUCTIONEERS REPORTS
TIM^KU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows ! ' Horses—The number of draught and light horses to-day booked for sale at their yards was -48. but with a few exceptions they were mostly of medium quality, and in consequence several buyers did not obtain what they wished to purchase, namely, good heavy draught marcs and gelding. For these they have still to report an active enquiry, and prices are becoming firmer every week. They sold a .fair proportion of their entries to-day at the following prices, viz. : —From L2O to L 26 for medium draughts, and from LlO to Ll 6 for inferior sorts and ordinary hacks. Sheep—There is still little business being dona in store sheep. With the exception of a few cross-bred hoggets changing hands, there are few lots in the market. At the Washdyke last Monday they sold a line of about 800 cross-bred hoggets at 10s. Fat sheep are keeping up in price and are in good demand. At Washdyke yards on the 27th alt they sold several lotjs at Rom 12s to 14s 3d for crossbreds. They quote prime mutton at fully per lb. Cattle—There is little doing at present in store cattle, owing to feed being scarce. They have made no transactions of importance during tjie week, T ioy sold last Monday a number of odd lots, principally cows, at from LI 10s to L 4 ; sprjffgers at from L 4 to L 5 ss. Fat Cattle—They sold at auction last Monday a number of steers at L 7 6s, and heifers at L 6 17s fid. They quote prime beef at about 22s fid per 1001 b. Country Bales—On account of Mr 8 Hatfield, they held a clearing sale on the farm near Pleasant Point last Thursday, at which they placed at current values sheep, cows, horses, implements, etc. The freehold was not sold, the price offered not being up to the owner’s limit, and is now fer sale privately. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, Sept. 1. Wheat is at 5s nominal. The market is dull with nothing doing. Town flour is at £ll 5s per ton ; cotintry flour, £lO ss. Sydney, Sept. 1. Wheat is at 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats, 2s 5d ; maize, 2s lOd. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Aug. 81. Adelaide wheat, ex store, continues at 475, and New Zealand ditto at 44s to 465, Adelaide flour, ex store,"B3s. Australian tallow—Best beef, 40s j best mutton, 41s, At the wool sales to-day 11,500 bales were offered. The market was steady, but the demand was not active, Since the opening series 12,250 bales have been withdrawn out of a total of 102,000 catalogued. Later; At the wool auction to-day there was good competition for the various lots offered. The catalogue comprised 10,400 bales. Sept. 1. Consols have a 1 vanned to 100|. Now Zealand securities are unchanged. The total stock of fallow in London to-day is 12,800 casks. There are no change* to report in the markets for colonial produce. At to-day’s wnol auction, 0500 hales were offered, Thu tune of the sale was rather firm. Later. At the wool sales 123.000 hales have hern catalogued, and 14,000 withdrawn. The market is stronger, hut irregular, Superior merinos and fine crossbreds are now equal to former rates, hut coarse and fleece wools are a half-penny lower.
