The amendments made by the Legislative in the Bankruptcy Bill were con sidered in Committee. The amendments made in clauses 30, 41, 44, 231, and 232 were disagreed to. The other amendments were agreed to. A great number of Bills were passed through Committee, In the Legislative Council on Thursday, The Standing Orders were suspended for the rest of the session to allow Government Bills to go through in one day. The Railways Construction and Land Act Amendment Bill and the Auckland Hospital Reserves Bill were passed through Committee and read a third time.

The Land Transfer Act Amendment Bill and the Corrupt Practices Prevention Bill were read a third time. The Gold Duties Abolition Bill was thrown out on the motion of Dr Pollen by 48 votes to 13.

In the House on Thursday, Replying to Mr Turnbull, the Hon Mr Johnston said the planting of the railway lino between Timaru and Winchester was not performed by contract. Replying to Mr Macandrew, the Hon Mr Conolly said the Government could not grant pecuniary solatium to Angelique Theresse in consideration of the injury infliced by a judicial officer of the Government. It would establish a dangerous precedent, and she had suffered no pecuniary loss.
