MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report under date Melbourne, August 15th, as follows :
Sheepskins, —A good supply still continues to come to hand, hut competition has not been animated, and a considerable drop has taken place in the price of green skins, and in many cases a reduction of from 6d to 9d each had to he accepted. Little change has taken place in other descriptions, and, at quotations below, a fair business has been done. Lamb skins up to 2s 6d eaoli ; butchers’ skins up to 6s 6d each; dry skins, Is 4d to 8s each ; station skins (in bales) 3£d to 7d per lb.
Wheat—Some large transactions have been carried through during the week, and prices have iiad an upward tendency At our sale to-day, the reserve on all prime lots was ss, the trade offering freely 4s lid, but this was declined. Market close ; buyers 4s lld ; sellers, ss.
Flour—The improvement in wheat has caused an enquiry for country flour hut the large supply coming forward has prevented as yet any advance in price. LlO to LlO 2s 6d obtained for export parcels and approved brands, and L 9 15s to L 9 17s 6d for ordinary makes. Oats—Little better demand for oats and at our sale to-day we obtained 3s to 3s Id for common to fair feed. Prime worth 3s 2d. New Zealand not offering to any extent. Barley—Prime samples of malting scarce; 6s to 6s Id paid. Cape and crushing lots up to 4s Id. Peas—The demand is good ; sales at 3s to 3s ] Od. Bran —Business done at 2^d. Pollard—According to sample, up to 13d. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Aug. 27. The wheat market is unchanged. Adelaide, ex store, is worth 475, and New Zealand do, 44s to 465. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, is quoted at 335. Australian tallow, best beef, 40s 6d, best mutton, 41s 6d. At the wool sales to-day 10,800 bales were offered. There was no material change in the prices offered. The market is, if anything, weaker. Aug. 29. There are no changes to report in consols, New Zealand securities, or colonial produce. At the wool auction to-day 11,000 bales were offered. More demand was experienced and an improvement in prices. A further portion of the lonic’s mutton was sold to-day at prices ranging from 6d to 7d per lb.
