A private lunatic asylum at Southall. nine miles from London, was totally destroyed by fire last night, and five of the inmates perished in the flames. Aug. 15.
In the House of Commons last night the Bankruptcy Bill was under consideration, and finally passed. A telegnm is to band from G'briltar reporting that the steamer Glmzee, bound from London to Australia ran into and sank the steamer Welwyn, near Cape St. Vincent. The Ghazee put into Gibraltar to repair damage*. All the passengers and crew of the Welwyn were rescued before the vessel went down. .Newg is to hand of a serious disaster in a mine in Cornwall. Owing to the breaking of a chain, the cage fell to the bottom of a shaft, and twelve miners who were in the cage were killed. A report is current that a rupture has occurred i"l the relations b?tween Italy and Morrocco, and that in consequence thereof, the Italian Envoy it Tangiers has lowered the flag at the Eriibassy at that town, Aug. 16. Lord Roseberry, who is about to visit the Australian colonies, will leave England on the 25th inet. Owing to illness amongst his family Sir Anthony Musgrave, recently appointed to the vacant Governorship of Queensland, has been delayed. Ha. however, expects to leave by the Sorata on September 20th. Messrs Redmond deny that their mission has been a failure, and they also assert that the Melbourne Convention has generously contributed towards the Parnell testimonial. The Spanish Government are irritated at the support offered towards the recent rebellion by the French, Pauii, Aug. 14. The Comte de Chambord is reported to be dying, and his medical attendants have given up all hope of his recovery* The Orleanist Princes have been summoned to Frohsdoof, the seat of the Comte de Chambord. Alexandria, Aug. 14. Notwithstanding the stringent precautions that are being taken to prevent the spread of the epidemic, there has been an alarming increase in the nnmber of persons attacked with cholera during the last twenty-four hours. Madrid, Aug. 15. Telegrams are to hand from Barcelona reporting that a railway train has been stopped and plundered by a body of armed men. Vienna, Aag. 15. A fly-sheet promulgating socialist principles of a violent and seditious character has been distributed broadcast through all parts of this city. The event has caused great popular excitement, and the civil authorities are endeavoring to ascertain the source from which the publication emanated, but as yet no arrests have been made. Capetown, Aug. 15. Intelligence is to band fiom Zululand reporting that another great battle has taken placo between the followers of Cetewayo and those of Usibepn, resulting in great slaughter on both sides. Usibepu'n followers were defeated, and the Chief escaped with difficulty. Cetewayo is still in retreat, but is reported to be recovering from the wounds he received at the battle at Ulundi. _+ AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, Aug. 16. Win. White, vinegar manufacturer of Melbourne, who absconded and who it is alleged forged numerous bills, amounting to fully £BOOO, was arrested on board the steamer Bowen, which was about to sail for Brisbane.
