London, Aug. 6.

In (he House of Commons last night* the (Inder-Secrclary of State for the Colonies was questioned with regard to the dismissal by the Governor of New South Wales of three Magistrates in that colony, for having placed their signatures with the affix of* J.P.’ to a disloyal address to Redmond, the Horae Ruler, in May last. In reply, (he Hon. Evelyn Ashley stated that Lord Loftus was justified in removing the Justices referred to from the Commission of the Peace, and that the Imperial Government had earned an intimation of its approval of his action to be conveyed to the Governor of New South Wales.

The challenge thrown oat by Elias Laycock, of Sydney, to row any man in the world over the champion course of Australia for £SOO aside (he allowing £IOO for expenses) has been accepted by Hanlon.

A Republican rising occurred to-day among the troops at Badajoz. The rioters held the town for some lime, but the e'neute was eventually repressed by a bodj of troops who were despatched from this city.

Upon the arrival at Badajoz of the troops despatched from this city to quell the risipg of the insurgent soldiers who had declared in favor of a republic, the latter, who numbered loss than a thou sand, shunning the attack of the loyal regiments, evacuated Badajoz and fled across the frontier into Portugal, where they were arrested as political refugees by the Portuguese authorities. Great excitement still prevails throughout the province, and Badajoz has been declared in a state of siege and is now occupied by tho loyal troops.

A decrease in the ravages of the cholera epidemic is now becoming general throughout the country, and no farther outbreak is anticipated. Ottawa (Canada), Auir 5.
