GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

HOUSE OF BEPRESENTATIVES, In the Hou«e on Friday,

After a great many questions had been answered, and Sir George Grey intimated that he would move his Land Tax motion next Thursday, the House went into Committee of Supply. After some items were passed, Mr Hutchison said that it was high time that some change was made in this expenditure. It was a monstrous fact that no sooner did a useless young man, the 6on or relation of a lord, make his appearance in the colony than he was drafted off into the Colonial Government service. Big as the building was he did not know where they all found room, - Mr Swanscn moved to refer the estimates back to the Government for reduction. The fact was the Government was afraid to face the thing honestly. If their servants had powerful friends at Court they would be sure to be all right; if not, they might have to go,

The debate lasted all night, and was a very acrimonious one, but as the Government had a majority of nine, they ..carried everything before them. Mr spoke for several hours, and read the whole of the Hospital and Charitable Aids report, containing 28 pages. ' Many severe strictures were passed on conduct of the Government, but they 'carried everything, and at 7.25 on Saturday morning the Hsn|e adjourned until 7.30 on Monday evening.
