It is announced that Sir Auckland Colvin, Financial Adviser to the Egyptian Government, has been appointed British Agent, Consul General, and Minister Plenipotentiary in Egypt, vice Sir Evelyn Baring, resigned. • Count de Lesseps will shortly arrive in London at the invitation of the Cabinet to conclude an agreement securing the necessary land, and to arrange other preliminaries for the continuation of the second canal through the Isthmus of Suez.
Mr Ellis Ashmead Bartlett, M.P. for Eye, has given notice of his intention to move in the House of Commons that it is desirable that a British Protectorate should be'established over New Guinea, in compliance with the wish expressed by the colonies,

The Orleanist princes had an interview to-day with the Comte de Chambord. The meeting was not of a political nature.
The Paris Temps urges the Government to grant a charter to a French company for acquiring, the New Hebrides Islands, with concession? similar to those granted by Great Britain to the North Borneo Trading Company.

Cholera has broken out at Menzaleh, a town on the lake of the same name, to the south-east of Damietta.
Bombay, July 7,
News has been received here that serious floods have occurred in the Surat and Gujerat districts, causing immense damage to property and washing away several villages. Thousands of ryots are reported to be in a homeless and destitute condition.
