AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. GEEAIDINE. Messrs Mundell and Co. report sales of produce, etc., at their rooms, Geraldine, on Saturday, the 2nd just : —Potatoes, per sack, 4s ; carrots, per sack, 3s 9d ; flour, per sack, 25s ; bran, per sack, 5s 6d ; sharps, per sack, 9s ; cheese 7d per lb ; fowls, 2s 3d per pair; onions firm at 2d per lb. We also sold on account of the trustees in the estate of the late Chas. Meredith, a useful lot of household furniture and effects, most of the lots offered fetching very satisfactory prices. We wish to draw special attention to the large entry of stock for our monthly sale at Geraldine on Wednesday the 6th inat. TIJIAEIT. Messrs Maclean and Stewart, of Tiraaru, report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : Horses—The demand for almost all kinds of horses at their yards to-day was very dull, and prices offeiing con siderably under what were current a few weeks ago, On account of farmers, etc,, being busy ploughing and sowing, there was a smaller attendance than usual, and almost no competition for the different lots submitted for sale, and the greater bulk of the horses bad to bo passed in. Their entries to-day consisted of 40 head, principally light and medium draughts. They sold fair good draughts up to £3O ; light medium sorts, from £l6 to £22 ; ordinary hacks and light harness, from £lO to £l6. Sheep—There is little to report at present in store sheep, as there is almost no business being done in this class of stock, and until winter is somewhat over they do not anticipate any marked difference in prices. They have no transactions of importance to report. Fat sheep—They have sold a few small lots privately, at from 13s to 14s 6d, and quote at present prime mutton at about 2d per lb. Cattle—Good well forward steers and heifers when offered for sale find ready buyers, but for young cattle or old cows there is but little demand, and small prices going for these. There is but little alteration in prices since they last reported. Fat cattle—These are much the same in value as last week. Good beef can be purchased at about 20s per 1001 b, at which quotation they have placed a few lots. Skins and Hides—They held their usual fortnightly sale last Wednesday, when they sold good crois-breds up to 4s 6d ; merinos up to 3s; madium cross-hrcds and merinos, from 2s to 2s Sd ; inferior, at Is to Is 6d. Hides— During the week they have sold a number at from 3£ to 3|d per lb. TIMARU MARKETS. The Manager of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association report :—We cannot report any improve rnent in the wheat market, though a fair trade had been done in prime milling for prompt shipment locally. Nothing is doing in interior or secondary wheats, but considerable quantities have been shipped, including 2500 sacks by the Association per Rotorua, for Dunedin. There is a better feeling in the oat market, while barley is dull and nothing doing, Quotations arc—Prime milling wheat, 4s to 4s 2d ; inferior to secondary, 2s to 3s 6d ; short milling oats, Is 9d to Is 10d ; feed oats, Is 5d to Is Sd, AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, June 1. New Z*a!and wheat is worth 4s 2d ; New Zealand oats, 2sSd ; meal, 2s lid; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, per ton, £BS. Adeladb, June I. Wheat is quoted at 5s to 5s Id, exporters not operating and holders anxious to release owing to Home advices. Town flour, per ton, £ll 10s to £l2 ; country brands, £lO 15s. ENGLISH MARKETS. Melbourne, June 2. Goldsbrough and Co., Limited, have received a Udeyram dated London, May 31st, reporting that the wool market is firm, and that numbers of freth buyers are attending th<* sales, and that foreign purchasers are ( pnaling more freely.
Combing, greasy, and good scoured are slightly in favor of the sellers, Inferior greasy, faulty scoured, and low crossbreds are slightly easier. London, May 30. At to-day’s wool sales 10,600 balea were offered. The tone of the sale wss firm. May 81, At the wool sale to-day, the catalogue comprised 11,900 bales. Bidding was steady, but the demand was not active. During this week 12,000 bales were withdrawn. June 1. The breadstuffs market is dull. Adelaide wheat ex store is worth 48s, and New Zealand ditto 44s to 46s ; Adelaide flour ex warehouse, 33s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat has risen to 2,250,000 quarters, Australian tallow is dull at 41s lor best beef and 42s 6d for best mutton. At to-day’s wool sale 10,100 bales I were catalogued. An active demand) was experienced for all descriptions.
