Further information regarding the British King’s cargo shows that the same is partially affected by mildew, and that the interior of the carcases is in some cases quite unfit for consumption. It now transpires that Major Evelyn Baring will have the same rank in Egypt as Sir Edward Malet, viz,, Agent and Consul-General and Minister Plenipotentiary. Mr McOoan, M.P., having reproved Mr Kelly, M.P., for rudeness to Mr \Y. Forster, has received a challenge from Kelly, who has accordingly been ordered to appear at the Bar of the House to-morrow to explain his conduct. June 1. Consols are at ex dividend. In the House of Commons last night, Lord E. Fitzmaurice, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs,announced that England and Mexico had accredited agents to negotiate for the resumption of friendly relations.
The death is announced of General E. D. Barnaby. June 2. It is announced that Chief Justice Wrenfordsley has been created a Knight Bachelor. Thomas Caffrey, one of the Phoenix Park murderers, was hanged at Dublin to-day. He confessed to his guilt. Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, in replying to a deputation of the Council of the Colonial Institute, which waited upon him to urge the annexation of New Guinea, stated he was in favor of the annexation, and that the matter would be decided by the Cabinet as soon ts Sir Arthur Kennedy’s despatches had been receivedAny statement which had been circulated to the contrary Lord Derby added, was purely imaginary. Sir Arthur Blyth, Agent-General for South Australia, and the Hon Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, spoke in favor of the annexation, Mr Thos. Archer, the Queensland AgentGeneral, stated that his Government only desired the annexation of the unclaimed portion of the Island. It is rumored that the naval fleets in Chinese waters are about to be increased by the various Powers, The report however, is unconfirmed. Berlin, May 31. Diplomatic relations between Prussia and the Vatican, which for some time pait have beoa somewhat strained* have
now assumed a more serious nature and an unyielding attitude is assumed by both Courts. Paris, May 81. The latest news from Cochin China is to the effect that the French gunboats have succeeded in relieving the troops who attacked Hanoi and were subsequently besieged by Anamese.

Melbourne, June 2. The official agricultural statistics of Victoria for the past season have been published. The returns regarding wheat has been anticipated. Oats show »n increase of 829,000 bushels, and barley a decrease of 170,000 bushels. Telegrams are to hand announcing that the barque Weymouth, bound from Boston to Port Chalmers, has put in at the Cape. Her pumps were choked and required repairing. Sy )m;v, June 1. In the Legislative Assembly to-night the Tramway Bill was finally agreed to as amended and passed. The House subsequently counted out, and the extraordinary session terminated.
