The Austral on her trial trip to day fully realised the expectations of her commander, the speed acquired being 15 knots, She sails for Glasgow on the 4th prox. May 29.

A match contest for £SOO came off last evening between Foley and Miller, After two hours’ boxing the match was drawn, Foley’s friends having rushed the ring. An extraordinary session of Parliament was opened to-day in the Legislative Council. An Address in Reply was moved. In the Assembly a Ministerial Bill for legalising the use of steam motors on tramways in the city was introduced. The debate on the Address in Reply has not yet taken place. Melbourne, May 28.

Carter’s jeweller’s shop in Collins street wjs broken into and robbed during last night. Goods to the value of £2OOO are missing. No arrests have yet been made. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of John Black, an employee of the Oriental Bank, who is charged with embezzling £IOOO in various sums. The full amount of the deficiencies is believed to be more than £IOOO, Black has not yet been arrested.
