A FIENDISH MOTHER.
A most horrible case of allompted murder was narrated at Chester Police Court on March 21st, On Sunday Elisabeth Roberts, living in Seaville-place, went home drunk, and taking her child aged 14 months, by the feet, flung it on the fire. A woman named Antrobus rushed forward and took the child off the flames It was terribly burnt. Roberts recovered the child from Antrobus, and again flung it on the fire. It was again rescued, this time its arm being much burnt. Antrobns screamed for help, and a woman named Brayford came in, but not before Roberts again threw the child on the fire. It was again rescued, and then Roberts attempted to throw a kettle of boiling water over it. The contents, however, fell on Mrs Antrobus, who was still protecting the child, scalding her very severely. Both Mrs Antrobus and the child were taken to the infirmary The child’s back has been literally roasted. Its life is despaired of. The prisoner was remanded.
