AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS, GERALDINE.
Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales of stock at the Geraldine sale yards on Wednesday, 9th inst : —The day was fine, but owing to the swollen state of the creeks and rivers in the district in consequence of the late heavy rains, owners were prevented from moving their stock to market, as in some instances it is with difficulty they can get on the dryest portions of their pastures, the result of this being a complete stagna tion in business, which was easily observed at this sale, as we only yarded 200 fat sheep, 86 head of cattle, 16 pigs, and 27 horses. Our entries were on account of Messrs Duncan, Ryan, Rae, Budd, Kennedy, Cochrane, Brown, Burk, Corkery, Kerr, Bates, Russell, Ocnnolly, Brophy, Middlcmiss, Prices at auction were 3-year-old steers, L 5 8s; cows, springing and in full profit, L 4 7s fid to L 5 10s ; store pigs, 12s to 14s. Fat sheep were withdrawn at 12s 9d. In horses no sales were effected. Wo quote beef at 20s per lOOlbs. [The above was inadvertently omifcttod fiom our last issue,] TIMAEU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart, of Tina am, report for the past week, ending Saturday as follows : Horses—A very large entry of horses was to-day booked for sale, over 100 heal haying passed under the hammer. A fair proportion of the horses entered for sale were good draughts, and for these there was a moderate competition, and very fair prices were obtained, For light and inferior draughts the demand is very dull, and these are difficult to quit at very low values. For good hacks and harness horses there is an enquiry, and these find ready purchasers when submitted for sale. They sold to-day about 35 head at the following prices :—Heavy draught mares and geldings, from L 33 to L4l ; medium sorts, from LlB to L 24; ordinary hacks and harness horses, from LlO to LlB. On Thursday, at Makikihi, they sold, on account of Mr James Young, 16 very fair draughts, one or tvto being extra good, at from L2O to L 39. Sheep—The demand for store sheep is at present dull, principally on a account of a large portion of buyers having obtained their requirements, and also on account of the bad weather interfering with the travelling of stock, At the Washdyke, last Monday, they entered about 600 cross-bred and merino ewes, but they were not sold. At Makikihi, on Thursday, they sold privately a small lot of 200 half-bred ewes at a satisfactory price. Fat sheep—There is a fair demand. At Sludholme Junction yards, last Monday, they sold 300 cross bred wethers at from 12s 9d to 13s, and few ether small lots up to 14s 2d, At the Washdyke the same day they offered 140 veiy good cross-breds, but these were not sold. Cattle—Well-forward store steers and heifers are ia fair demand, and are fetching full values. A large entry of store cattle was hooked last Monday at the Washdyke yards, over 200 head being received for sale. Good wellgrown bullocks sold up to Lb 15s ; two-year-old steers and heifers, from L2 5s to L 3 ; calves at 14s ; young cattle at 35s ; old cows up to L 3, Fat cattle Present values are about 20s per 1001 b.
Property—During the last month a very large portion of the celehratedJSeadovm estate has changed hands at very satisfactory prices. The buyers, a number of them being the right c'asa of farmers, have already settle! in the district, and having bad u knowledge of the good quality of the land, have paid good prices for it, There is no doubt that they have ail made good investments, and will have splendid r. turns fur their money.— ['hey offered lor sale on Tuesday lust, whal is known as Parsons’s Foundry, with lease of ab ml JL aero, tcgotlnr with the bail.lings and plant, hut the price offered was not
such ns could bo accepted, and in consequence the property was not sold. TIM ABU MARKET’’.
