Gallagher (a brother of the man now under trial in London), who was recently arrested in Glasgow, has intimated to the po’ice his willingness to to turn informer against the dynamite conspirators.

An official bulletin, issued this morning regarding the health of the Queen, announces that Her Majesty continues to improve towards recovery from her accident at Windsor. However, her recovery is slow, and it will be impossible for her to stand or walk for some time.
The foreman of the jury by which the prisoner Brady was convicted of the murder of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke has received seveial threatening letters, and is under continual police protection. Bernard Gallagher, who was arrested at Glasgow in connection with Fenian conspiracies in various cities in England has bee i conveyed from Glasgow to London. It is, however denied that he has turned informer against his alleged accomplices.
In consequence of revelations which have been made by a prisoner now un - dergoing sentence of penal servitude regarding a case of murder and conspiracy at Clare, Ireland, ten persons have been arrested by the police. In the House of Commons to-day, a question was put to the Under-Secretary for the Colonies regarding the. reported annexation of New Guinea. In reply, the Hon Evelyn Ashley confirmed the announcement, and informed the House that the island had been taken hy the Queensland Government in the name of Her Majesty the Queen. pending the decision by the Imperial Government in (he subject. Mr Ashley added that the annexation was deemed expedient in order to prevent the acquisition of New Guinea by a foreign power. The trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the prisoners charged with the murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr was commenced in Dublin today. On the opening of the Court, eight jurors who had been summoned were found to be absent and were ordered to pay fines of £IOO. Consols remain at IC2|-. New Zealand securities are quoted as follows:5 per 10-40 loan, 108£ ; 5 per cent 1889 loan, 106 ; percent 1879-19 4 loan, i 4 per cent inscribed stock, 102-J-. The market rate of discount has advanced £ per cent, and is now 2§. The Bank rate is 3 per cent. The reported action of the Queensland Government in taking possession of New Guinea has caused great annoyance to a large and influential party in the House of Commons, and strong pressure is being brought to bear upon the Government to induce it to repudiate the action of the Governor, Sir Anhui Kennedy. April 17. Tho Loudon newspapers in their leading articles this morning commenting upon the annexation of New Guinea by the Queensland Government, generally express doubt that the Imperial Government will approve of the action of the Colonial authorities. In the course of the trial of Daniel Corley, the second Phcenix Park prisoner, at Dublin yesterday, the informer Carey, whilst under examination, testified to the fact that twenty distinct plots had been formed for the assassination ot Mr Forster, late Chief Secretary for Ireland.
St, Petersburg, April 16. It is announced that the coronation of the Czar has been postponed fur a fortnight, until the 10th June. The Standard states that England has annexed large tracts of country in the vicinity of Liberia. The Leaguers are becoming alarmed at the hostility shown by the American press, and arc moderating their threats of using dynamite. Egan, the Treasurer of the Irish League, intends to permanently reside in America.
The Times admires the decision of the Queensland Government in annex-
ing New Guinea, though it is certain to provoke considerable discussion in the House of Commons. The press generally disapproves of the anexation.
