AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS
TBMUKA. , Messrs J, M. Oilivier and Co.Vi new auction room in Temuka was opened on Saturday last. Circumstances prevent us from giving a detailed description of the place in this issue but we shall take an early opportunity of doing so, We may, however, say that the sale was a great success, and that the attendance was very large, in fact it changed the aspect of the town altogether by bring a great many people into it. They report as follows: Horses—Harness horses Ll 5 to Ll 9; hacks from L 9 to Ll 4 10s. Cattle—Dairy cows from L 4 19s to to L 6 ; dry, do, L2 12s 6d to L 3 15s ; calves, 15s to Ll 10s ; stores, 2 years old L 4 6s. Fowls '■s 6d to 3s. Produce—Potatoes 5s 6d per bag ; chicken wheat IDs per big of 4 bushels; carrots 3s per bag. Sheepskins Is to 2s 6d, Sundries—Furniture, drapery, miscellaneous ai tides sold at satisfactory
prices. Mr Oilivier not having taken out his license, Mr T. W. Corbett, of Geialdine wielded the hammer.' The nal>s will be held every Saturday, and if we are to judge by the first one they will prove not only a success but a boon to the town, ho far as we can ascertain be tween 1,500 and L6OO worth of goods changed bands. It is well if. all this* business can be kept in it.
OEBAIiDINS. Messrs Mundeil and Co. report of stock, produce, etc. for the past week as follows, viz Sheep-Merino ewes, full but sound mouth, 5s 3 i to 6s ; slightly broken and inferior 4s 3d to 4* 7d ; cross-bred store sheep, 8 s to 9s 9-1. Fat sheep are hard to obtain at from 13s Pd to 15s 9d. Cattle—Forward stores L 5 10a (». L 6 2s 6d ; two year-olds L 3 1)s to L 3,17 s 6d ; yearlings, according to quality 80s to 37s 6d with good demand for this class of .-took. Fat cattle are selling at high rates, we quote beef ai 22s per cwt. Pigs—For this class of stocks demand exists and high prices are being given. The supply is not equal to tin* demand. Horses—Heavy draughts, good sorts, L3O to L 35 for this class a good demand exists, light and inferior hard to sell at low rates the inclination of buyers being to purchase the better class of animals. Harness horses Ll 4to L2O; hackneys are not much in demand, and prices are low in consequence. Land—During the week we sold privately on acconnt of Mr Burroughs his farm comprised in 112 acres of impioved land at Hilton at a price satis factory to the vendor. We find a great demand exists for land in this district. We have several small farms in our books for sale. It is our opinion that land will be hard to purchase in this district shortly.
Produce at our Rooms'—-Potatoes 5s 6d per sack ; onions, l-|d per lb; chick wheat, 2s 6d per bushel ; oats, Is 8d per bushel; bran, per sack, 5s ; sharps, 7s 6d : hams, Sd per lb ; bacon 6£d to 7d ; cheese, 7d per lb. During the week we held a clearing sale of drapery on account of Messrs A. and T. Inglis, Dunedin, which was exceedingly well attended, there being upwards of 300 persons present on some of the sale days. No doubt some of the goods were sold exceedingly cheap but taking the sale all round ic was very satisfactory with regard to value-, W-- find ihn despite this larg- sal> imiv is olio a great demand for woollen goods in the district.
