The Zealandia with the 'Frisco Mail arrived in Auckland on Saturday night, two days in advance of contract time. She brings the following intelligence :

A coal mine at Bradwood, in Illinois, cavsd in on the 16th of February, imprisoning 75 men, of whom sixty-two were killed.

The London Times of February 15th says that an interview took place on lie daj preceding between the ex-Empress Eugenie and Prince Jerome Napoleon, which, it says, has cleared up some private misunderstanding existing between the ex-Empress and the Prince, and led to a formal resignation by the latter as head of the Bonaparte family. She assured her cousin of her best wishes for any constitutional ajtion he may take towards bringing about a plebiscite. The Prince, on his part, states that if the popular vote shows a preference for the Republic he should bow to it. Gustave Dord's will directs all his paintings to be kept two years and then sold.

The funeral of Richard Wagner, the composer, took place at Venice on the 17*h, the body having been previously embalmed. The head of the deceased rested upon a pillow made of the long hair of his widow, which she cut off and p laced in the coffin. A despatch to London on March 20th says there were twenty-one serious duels in one day at Genoa University, and owing to the fact that the swords had not been properly cleaned since having been used previously, sonw forty students were in the hospital suffering from bloodpoisoning. Two had alrefdy died at that date and one losing his mind committed suicide by strychnine. There is a prospect that public feeling will U effectu" I '- aroused against the pvactice of duelling, The North German Gazette expresses the highest satisfaction at the relations between Germany and England, and says they are better now than they have been for ten years.

Mi'B Quinquiven, wife of a cook of that name in New York, was arrested on February 28th for the murder of a man named Hourett, who attempted to take liberties with her. When told to stop he replied with an oath, and the woman seized a cook's knife and plunged it into his heart, killing him instantly, He was bom in Sydney, N.S.W.

Daniel P, Disraeli and Peter McKenzie, recently arrived in San Francisco from Australia, assert tliey have discovered a new metor based upon tlie principle of gravitation. It ia reported that cholera is ravaging the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and work on the railway is consequently entirely suspended . A society called the l Black Society > was discovered in Andslusia, Spain, and was declared by the Deputy on the 28th to be the centre of all Socialistic troubles there, it aimed at collective instead of individual rights of property. Members of the Society had murdered men and outraged women, and destroyed everything on several plantations. Government was asked to use vigorous measures of repression. On the 3rd March the names of the entire Committee and the Society's documents and statutes, including a list of 700 members, were in the hands of the Government. At a special tribunal convened at once, the prisoners arrested were nil convicted, and ten of the most culpable hanged. The remainder, 300, will probably be sentenced to penal ler, vitude. The authorities showed great promptness and vigor in this matter.
