Judgment by default for the amount claimed and costs. W, Lewis v W. Scott—Claim £7. Judgment by default for the amount claimed and costs. BREACH OP THE LICENSING ACT, R. Fenton, licensee of the Temuka Hotel, was charged with having on Sunday, the 11th inst,, permitted drink to be sold in his house, It appeared from the evidence that a *Wn named Tommy Leahy invited tiro of his friends into the hotel, and, being a lodger in the hotel, obtained drink for them. They had one drink esch, and were supplied by the barman without the knowledge of Mr Fenton. The constable came in afterwards, and saw the glasses empty beside them . J. W. Miles, boarder in the hotel, stated that he had been in the hotel for 18 months, and that he never saw it so well conducted as since Mr Fenton took it. Mr Fenton appeared to be very particular in regard to selling drink en Sunday. Hiß Worship said he would have to convict. He would fine the defendant jt £5, but would not record the conviction on his license. CIVIL CASE. , "YV. Essery v C. Gapes—Claim £& 16s 4d. Judgment by default for the amount claimed and costs.
