Intelligence is to hand from Paris that Byrne has now been released from custody.

An explosion of dynamite occurred last evening at the office of the Local Government Board, in Whitehall. The offices were completely wrecked, Immense damage was caused to the buildings, and thousand of windows in the vicinity were shattered. Fortunately no one was injured. One man has been arrested in connection with the outrage. March 17. No clue has yet been obtained to the actual perpetrators of outrages at the offices of the Local Government Board and London Times. A reward of£loUo is offered for information leading to the arrest of the guilty parties. In case of any explosion, the military guards at the various Ministerial offices and at the Houses of Parliament have been doubled, and all necessary precautions have been taken to prevent further outrages,

Intelligence is to hand that John Walsh, who was arrested at Havre in France on the 2nd inst., on a charge of complicity in the Irish assassinations, has been released from custody, O’Donovan Rossa attributes the attempt to blow up the Government offices to the action of some skirmishers. It is stated that the Luchreanas are combining against the Boers. Extra magazines are being established at the docks and the Government offices. Mr Forster urges that the convention should bo strictly observed in South Africa, or England should withdraw altogether. A Zulu deputation is proceeding to Natal to urge the restoration of the reserves. The British Resident appears to have no influence with Cetewayo. March 18. In the House of Commons to-day, a debate took place upon the policy of the Government in regard to the treatment of the Transvaal natives by the Boers. Mr W. E. Forster strongly condemned the measures proposed to bo taken with a view to putting a stop to the oppressive action of the Boers. Mr Gladstone made a lengthy defence of the Government policy, and the debate was then adjourned until after the Easter recess, Paris, March 10, Five thousand Socialists who had today collected at the Place Invalides were dispersed by the police, March 12, An attempt was made to-day by Socialists to renew rioting in this city, A display of force by a largo body of military ami police, however, overawed them and they dispersed. Eiftien arrests were made of prominent rioters, March 17. Further arrests have been made of leaders in the prevailing anaicliial agitation in this city. It is expected that frc»h gatherings of Socialists have been arranged for to-morrow, and extra precautionary measures are being taken b the authorises to prevent a disturbance. St, Petersburg, March 12. The deatli is announced to-day of Piiuce Gcrtchakoff, the well-known Russian statesman, aged 85.

that he had been guilty of peculation in the department of the service of which ho was State Sectary, New York, March 14, Egan, Treasurer of the Irish Land League, has arrived hero. He den : e* that he has flown from Ireland, and that the funds of the League have been employed in connection with the Irish outrages.

Melbourne, March 15

Mr dimes Service, Premier, addressed his constituents at Castlemaine last night. He announced the abolition of political pati’onage in Government Departments, including the railway and educational branches, and the appointment of a Board to manage the railways. He further announced that the railways would be extended, the water supply improved, and steps taken to settle the mallee country. He stated that the finances of the last Government are in a deplorable state. Sydney, March 17.

An Irish demonstration which took place to-day at Botany was largely attended, but the proceedings were quiet and orderly. Mr Redmond made a speech, and took occasion to exonerate Egan from the charge of misappropriation of the League’s funds, The walking contest between Edwards and O’Leary resulted in a victory for the former, who completed 373 miles. O’Leary did 350. A great fire occurred at Deniliquin, resulting in the destruction of four of the principal shops in the town. The loss of property is estimated at -£SOOO, which is only partially insured.
