CHRISTCHUEHH MARKETS,

'. Messrs Robert "Wilkin and Co. report : -At the Aldington Yards on Wednesday, 12.868 sheep, 444 head of cattle, and 284 pigs were yarded for the week's supply, Notwithstanding the very large entry of sheep, only a small proportion consisted of prime aud good quality sorts, fit for trade requirements, and those offered found buyers readily at prices fully equal to last week's rates. Store cross-breds and hmbs in large drafts also met keen competition. In fat cattle a full supply was offered, some of which comprised prime quality descriptions, and late prices may be considered fully maintained. We sold a draft of the Springbank merino wethers (from the ewes of the late K. Chapman) at 13s 3d and 12s 9d each. On account of other owners, medium quality crossbreds at lis 9d, store, merino wethers at 6s 3d and 8s 6<i, crossbred ewes (broken mouthed) at 8s 6d. Fat steers and heifers from £5 10s to £6 17s 6d ; two-year-old stores, mixed sexJs, £2 10s each ; pigs, to £5 5s each. On Thursday wa held the usual weekly sale of sheepskins in our New Zealand Wool Stores. There was a good attendance of buyers and spirited competition. Prices were equal to late qnotntions. Woolly skins, large, ss. 5s Bd, 6? 3d ; do, second quality, 3s 3d, 4s 2d, ss; lambskins, largo, 2s 2d, 2s 6d, 2s lOd ; do, second quality, Is 2d, Is Bd, 2s 2d ; pelts, large and early shorn, 2s Id, 2s 6d,2s 1ld; do, medium, Is, Is 6d, 2s Id; do, small and late shorn, 2d, 7d, Is. Fat and tallow—There was an average attendance Of the trade and brisk demand ; 60 packages were catalogued and all soil. Fat, best quality, clean and well saved, to 2§d per lb; second quality, to 2fd per lb ; heated and inferior, at fd per lb. Tallow in small lots, from 25s 6d per cwt for second qualify to 28s 6d per cwt for best quality. Hides and calfskins not sold. Wool Sam

The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited report on the local wool sales as follows : Our fifth wool sale of the season was held at the Christchurch Wool and Grain Warehouses on Wednesday. T!;cro was a good attendance and from the fact that new buyers were -present, spirited competition was anticipated, but as the sale progressed it was evident that a wide divergence existed between the views of buyers aud sellers, with the result that only 537 bales were placed DUt of a cataof 1108 bales. Dross-breds, whether in grease or scoured, suffered a decline of 10 <o 15 per cent. Scoured merino elicited keen competition, but clips in the grease were much neglected, Fiom the subjoined priced catalogue it. will be observed that greasy merino merino made 7-W to 9gd ; crossbred*. 6d to 9£d ; half-bred, 9|d ; pieces, 4d to 7£d ; and locks, l|d to 2jd ; scoured merino, Is 3d to Is 7d ; cross-bred, 9£d to 10£d ; half-bred, Is Id; merino pieces, Is 4|d ; locks, Is 1 Jd ; and lambs, lOJ'i. catalogued. The highest prices obtained were for crossbreds, 9d ; merino, 9|d ; scoured, Is 6|d.
