TIMARU MARKET*.

Feb. 24.

Tho Manager of the Canterbury Farmers' Association imports:—Owing to the further advance quoted for wheat in the London and Colonial markets, values here have advanced correspondingly. 'Ih:; weather has been changeable, with heavy rain at intervals, causing' much delay in harvesting, and it was feared that considerable damage would have resulted to grain stock. This caused the buyers to act cautiously, in view of the doubtful condition of the grain to come forward, but from the enquiries made in the several districts round, we understand that but little damage has yet resulted, and with a continuance of fine weathei it ; s hoped that the farmers will soon get their grain into s'tack in good condition. We have sold several lots through the wedc at from os lOd to -Is, delivered in Timaru or at country railway stations. Choice samples of Tuscan are worth more money. At these prices there is a good demand. Oats are very slow a> sale. Some parcels have been placed through the week at from Is B£d ts 2s. Barley —No transactions reported; nominal value, 3s 2d Lo -Is id in Timaru.

Large parcels of wheat have changed hands during the week. C-impel ition amongst the buyers k still keenly maintain3d, with no falling off i n values. Growers as a rule are accepting the prices efferpt], in pref-'P-nce to shipping on th'ir own account. As a rule the quality of the grain is good, as also is (he-vield. : " i'

Wheat—Prime Tuscan js worth 4s 4d to 4s 4£d, f.o.b ; other sorts range from 4s 2d to 4s B£d, f.0.b., i.e., if in any lines suitable for shipment ; chickwheat, is in demand at from 2s Kid to 3s, (IpUm-ivil in (Jhristchureh Oats—A slight decline in values has been apparent during the week, with a growing disinclination on the part of buyers to operate ; sales have been effected at Id under last week's quotations. Good short milling Is to 2s C-£d per bushel, delivered in Christchurch ; feed samples of short and good long oats 2d per bushel under the foregoing prices.

Barley—A few more simples have been offered 'hiring the week ; the quality is, however, decidedly inferior to last year. Fair to good 4s to 4s 6d per bushel delivered in Christohurch Grass Seed—Farmers parcels 2s 9d to 3s per bushel, machine dressed 3s 3d to 3s 6d.

Cocksfoot 3§d to perlb, delivered in Christehurch. Cheese and Butter—The former is worth 5d to Gd, the latter to lOd per lb f.o.b.

ENGLISH MARKETS

London, Feb. 23

The total quantity of wheat nfloat for Great Britain is 30,700 quarters, a decrease of 13,000 quarters during tin week. At to-day's wool sale 12.200 bales were, offered, making a total of 40,000 catalogued. Since the opening of the series 1300 bales have been withdrawn. Prices were firmly maintained. Feb, 24.

The catalogue at te-lay's wool sale comprised 1000 bales. The tone of the sale was firm.

AUSTRALIA MARKETS

Sydney, Feb. 23.

New Zealand wheat, per bushel, is quoted at 5s 2d ; New Zealand oats at 2s ?<d ; maize at 3s 8d ; and Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces, per ton, at £35.

Adelaide, Feb. 23.

Wheat has advanced to 5s 9<L The market is firm, but little business is doing, holders being unwilling to operate except at higher prices. Town flour, per ton, is quoted at £l3 10s and country biands at £l2 10s. Freight quotations are nominal.
