Sydney, Feb. 19
The enquiry into the cause ot the recent tram accident, by which several persons were injured, was concluded on (Saturday. The Court found that the accident was caused by the negligence of the pointsman. Adelaide, Feb, 19.
Advices to hand by the mail describe the attempt to float the Victorian loan as a complete failure owing to the high minimum fixed, and the stale of the money market. Melbourne, Feb. 20.
The strike in the coal trade has practically collapsed, and the nnij"rity of the men have returned to work.
The tailoresses of this city, who for some time past have been on strike, are expected to return to work at an early date, the strike being virtually ended. The local manager ol the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zeala id reports on the local market as follows :—Shipping wheat, flat and dropping, at 5s 3d to 5s fid. For malting barley the demand has slackened, and prices have declined ; to-day’s quotations are 5s 3d to 5s fid. Oats are depressed ; New Zealand feed 2s ; ditto milling 3s fid ; New Zealand oats under bond are quiet but steady at 2s 3d to 2s lOd.
