MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peed Forest, on Fiiday the 16til inst. Members present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun, C. G. Tripp and J. Honey. The Chairman being absent, Mr CG. Tripp was voted to the Chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The correspondence for the past month was read and considered, as follows :
From Mr It. Mackay apologising for non-attendance at the present meeting of the Board owing to press of business, and making application for the formation of the recently surveyed road through sections 30291 and 28079. The Overseer was instructed to report upon the work at the next meeting of the Board.
From Mr J. W. White, conveying legal opinion as to collecting rates, also the number of votes electors would bo entitled to exercise at the election of members for the Timaru Harbor Board.
From the Property Tax Commissioner forwarding a copy of the valuation roll. T.hc same to be open for inspection of ratepayers during office hours. From Mr F. W. Merchant in reference to the delivery of the timber for the Opuha Bridge. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, Christchurch, enclosing a statement of the receipts and expenditure tor the year ending 31st December, 1882.
The clerk informed the Board that the election of a member to represent the district on the Timaru Harbor Board was held in accordance with the provisions of the Timaru Harbor Board Act 1882, and that Mr John Talbot of Temuka being the only candidate nominated was declared duly elected,
Messrs Smith, Dennistoun ami Co., made application to bo allowed to erect a gale across the road leading over the Orari Downs.
The request was granted upon the usual conditions.
The Clerk was directed to the Colonial Secretary requesting a reply to the Board’s letter of the 22nd ult, re the boundary of the district.
Resolved—‘ That tenders bo called for metalling the newly-formed road through section 190-15, Ai land ale, if the owner of the land will give permission to take gravel where it can be got.’
The Overseer was instructed to make out an estimate of the cost of sinking a well at the, office.
After passing accounts to the amount of £57 7s Gd. tin l Board adjourned.
