The international cricket match Australia v. England, lias been postponed until Saturday, the 17th, on account of the unsettled state of the weather. Feb. 5. Recent advices from Fiji report the death of King Cakobau, after a short illness. Melbourne, Feb. 14. The death is announced ot the Right Rev M, O’Connon, D.D., Roman Catholic Bishop of Ballarat. Feb. 16.
The police last night effected the arrest of George Clarke, of Clyde, Otago, on a charg(4"6f embezzling the sum of £4BO. The accused was Clerk to the Vincent County Council, and he is now detained in custody pending the arrival of the warrant from New Zealand. He was brought up at the Police Court today, and remanded for a week.
The laborers and drivers in the coal trade struck work on Monday, and it is now feared that the strike will extend to the lumpers and others. They demand that the eight hours system shall be adopted. The masters refuse to agiee to the demands of the men, and threaten to lay up the vessels engaged in the coal trade.
