TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
A special raeetin4 of tlie ab »re was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Joint Talbot (Coainnau) Austin, Barker and Elisor. After reading the minute*, the Dhairmau Maid their business was to co nsider what steps were to be taken with regard to carrying on the works. A letter was read from Mr E l *ry, a'a'ing that he had finished work to the value of £lO, which had not been passed la.'t Board day, and asking that it should be passed. It was decided to pay the amount ns soon ns it was certified that the work had been done.
A letter from Mr John Moyer ri rea*i in reference to the slaughterhouse license which Mr D. McOallurn intends applying for, and protesting against the Board granting it, as it was »uo near his dwelling-house. The letter was deferred un'il next meeting.

A letter from Mr Ja nes Divis was read, stating that he had been dismissed from the Board’s service after having been employed for the last seven yearn, and «ished to know the cause of bis dismiss: !. The Board decided that it saw no reason for interfering in the matter. A letter was read from Mr Lewis returning the cheque for £2O, which had been given to him in lieu of a month’s notice.
Mr Lewis waited upon the Board and asktdtoknow tho reason why he had been dismissed, The Chairman said the reason was that be bad taken too much drink, and had neglected his business. Mr Lewis : In that the only reason 1 The Chairman, That is the reason. The Board had no other fault to find with you.
Mr Lewis : That is not much. I deny that 1 had been drinking when you came and interfered with ire, but I admit that I have been drinking since, through having been driven to it. Mr Lewis then retired, It was decided to adveitise for an Overseer and Clerk at a salary of £250 pel annum and house rent free. Mr Langridge was appointed clerk of works.
The Chairman said vith regard to the alteration of the boundary of the Hoad Board it was necessary that a petition of two-thirds of the ratepayers of the district should be sent to the County Council, and suggested that Mr Geo. Dyson should be appointed to get up the petition.
The suggestion of the Ciia man was adopted. A letter of apology was read from Mr J. P-terson stating that lie was unable to attend the mee ting The meeting ibei odj aimed.
