TIMARU MARKETS. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows :

Horses.—Their entry today was a a very small one, in fact the smallest ever seen at their yards, bat while farmers are fully employed harvesting, they cannot be expected to devote much attention to stock markets. There is, however, at the present time an indication of a better demand springing up than has existed for some time back. They sold to-day at auction and privately a few head, and may quote good draughts £25 to £3B ; medium, £ls to £22 ; hack and light harness horses, £6 to £l6. Cattle.— At Studholme Junction monthly sale on Monday last, theentryof both fat and stores was under the average at the sales, TJjey placed a small line of 2-year old 9teers at £4-12s 6d ; yearlings at 40s. Beef sold at equal to 20s per lOOlbs. They have enquiries for 3-year-old steers, and any lots coming forward will meet a fair i market.

Shoep.— Oil Monday last they sold on account of Mr M. Studholrae, 600 merino wethers, a prime lut, afc 8s to 8s 4d. They were keenly competed for, and the trade can rely on a similar lot coming forward every month. Thny sold privately during the week 2500 merino ewes at satisfactory prices. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS' Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co report: —At the Addiogton Yards on Wednesday, 4666 sheep, 300 head of cattle and 70 pigs were yarded. Fat sheep—A fair supply, the hulk of which were brisk, and prices a shade in advance of last week's rates wore obtained. A large entry of fa*, cattle came forward, for which description there was no improvement on late prices. We sold on account of various clients :—Medium quality cross-breds at 10s Cd and 10s. A draft of merino wethera at 7s Gl. Cross-bred store at 6s 6d and 6s lOd. Pat lambs from 5s 9d to 8s 3d, according to quality. Fat heifers and steers trom £5 10s to £7. Pigs, medium sized, from 30s to 45s each ; ditto small from 12s to 275. We held a well-attended sale of sheepskins, etc., on Thursday, in our New Zealand Wool Stores, at which good prices were obtained. Woolly skins, large, 4s Gd, 5s 2d, 5s 9d ; do do. medium. 2s 3d, 3s, 3s 9d, 4s 6d ; do do, small, Is, Is 7d, 2s 3d ; pelts, large and early shorn, Is 7d, Is JCd, 2s 2d ; do, medium, Is, Is 3d, Is 7d; do small and late shorn, B<l, lOd, Is ; lambskins, large, Is lOd, 2s 2d,2s Gd ; do, medium, Is, Is Gd, Is lOd ; do, smnll, Bd, Is. Fat and tal'ow—There was a good attendance of the trade and stunted demand. Fat, best quality, clean and well saved, to 2-|d lb ; second quality to per lb ; heated aud inferior, at per lb. Hides and calkskins not sold.

LONDON SEED TRADF. Messrs John Sliaw iincl Sons, of o 7 Mark Lar.e London, E.C., report through their agent, Mr Leonard Blake of Christehurch, that the market during the month ending December 28th, was on the whole quiet.
