MR MILNER STEPHEN.

With regard to Mr Milner Stephen (hr tf.Z, Times says: —‘To dismiss his real or i nnginary cans 83 shameless frauds is to indulge in mare unprofitable abuse; and bei-ides that, is quite incm sistenb with the facts of the case. Imposlo'S do not usua ly make their public appearances, without pay, in large rooms in broad daylight, before mixed audiences, with well-known persons to operate upon, and allowing full liberty to these to make their own statements before friends and foes, either orally or in writing. Yet Mr Stephen has been subject to these conditions, and the result, as a matter of plain common sense, lies been just this, that in some cases he has been apparently successful, in other cases he has apparently failed. Unless we throw aside the evidence of our souses and discard all human testimony as

untrustworthy, we must c;.me to so ne such conclusion Whilst, there-

fore, we reg-rd the miraculous port of Mr Stephen's pretensions as downright rubbish , rather mischievous than useful, we do net question bis assertion that he lias performed numerous cures s xnehow, and we should like to know how he really d >pb them, nod by virtue of what special force of the universe—whether mesmerism, spiritual communication or otherwife —he accomplishes so much.’
