MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting ot the Board was held in the Road Board Office on Friday, the 19th inst. Present—The Hon J. B. A. Adand (Chairman), Messrs C. G. Tripp, J. Heney, R. Mackay, and G. J. Dennistoun.

MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE.

The following correspondence was read and considered : From the Tiraaru Harbor Board, intimating that it would be necessary to hold an election for the return of a member for the Timaru Harbor Board on Monday, the 12th February. The Clerk was directed to take the necessary steps for holding the election on the date mentioned, and to obtain legal opinion as to the number of votes each elector will be entitled to. From the Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, staling that the plan of Reserve 349 had been forwarded to the Board, as by the proclamation in the Gazette of the 21st February, 1878, the reserve came within the Mount Peel Road District, and until that proclamation was cancelled or revoked, he would continue to consider it officially as part of the district.

The Clerk was directed to forward to the Colonial Secretary a copy of the correspondence with the Chief Surveyor, showing constant difficulties are arising from the neglect of the Government to take action in the matter.

From Mr J. H. R. King, .forwarding the plan of the road surveyed by him to section 3C291.

From Mr F. W. March ant, C.E., Burke’s Pass, forwarding pla s of the Opuha 1 ridge, and recommending that tenders be called for the work at an earl; date.

Resolved—* Tiiut Mr Maroiiant lie written to, asking if the deHveiy of the* limber for the bridge could not he delayed till the piles are ready ; and, if not, that he be empowered to make arrangements for having it carted to the bridge site.’ From the Geraldine Boad Board f>r warding a copy of a resolution passed by the Board in reference to the Rangitata Station road ; also, a copy of a proposal submited by the Chairman of the Geraldine Road Board to the Chairman of the Mount Peel Board for the future maintenance of tiie road in question.

Resolved—‘ That inasmuch as within four mouths from the present time, nmiely, during the first week in May, all the m ij mb'Ts of u l l the existing Rn.nl Boards go out of office and a general election takes place, the Mount Peel Road Board is of opinion that it will he better, and more in accordance with the probable wishes of the ratepayers of both districts that the question of the Rang!ta>a road should be left to th u Boards to be elected in May n'‘Xt. undn* the new Road B »ard Act.’

Applicatinii was was ma le by Messrs Smith and Donnistoun and Co., Mr 0. G. Tripp and R. Mackay under section 449 of the Road Board Act, 1882, to allow the gales erected by them on the public roads to remain. The request was granted subject to the conditions of the Act being complied with. INTERVIEW . Mr Wlieelhaii i had an interview with t’.ie Board in reference to the damage done by hares to the plantations, and asking the Board to make some allowance for the same. Resolved— * That the Board cannot see Their way to make any allowance at present. ’ accounts. After passing accounts to the amount of £796 9s 3 i the Board adjourned.
