TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
The annual meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Present Messrs F. Archer (Chairman), T.W. Hall, W.Evans, K. F. Gray, R. Turobull. W. Moody, T. Teschemaker, R. A. Barker, and His Worship the Mayor, The Harbor Master reported that the ship Margaret Galbraith had been laying at the outer anchorage for 13 days without being discharged. It was decided that the matter rested with the consignees. The Geraldhe County Council wrote, congratulating the Board on the unanimity of feeling displayed at the Harbor Board Loan Poll. The Under Secretary wrote that the Railway Department would have under consideration the Board's application re reduction of handling charges on (he wharf. In reference to the proposed jetty, after inspecting the site, Mr Moody moved, the Mayor seconded and it was carried—'That consideration of the tenders for reclamation be postponed and that Government ba asked to sanction and contribute its share to any cost of reclamation on the line of land retained by them fronting the beach, norch of the Breakwater, and that the Engineer prepare a rough sketch of road lines required for access to the frontage which may be converted into reclaimed land in future, a Committee, consisting of the Chairman Messrs Hall, Evans, Moody, Gray, and Jackson be appointed to confer with the Engineer on the subject of road lines and report to next meeting. Tenders and deposits to be returned to the tenderers with a copy of this resolution,' The Engineer reported that 58 lineal feet of monolith had been completed during the past month. The total length of the finished work of this contrat was '278 feet, and of foundation blocks hud 311 feet. Wharf extension contract No 4 was not out of the contractor's hands, but had been used for berthing vessels since the 27th ultimo. He recommended that more cement should be teudered for. The Board decided, on the motion of Mr Moody, seconded by Mr Gray, to instruct the Engineer to call for tenders for 2000 tons cement, delivery to be made by direct ships to Timaru. Tne Harbor Master, after reporting on the experiments he had made with oil on water, asked to allowed to have fitted both on board of the tug and lifeboat the
t.i'uessary iippliances for the practical use of oil at any time it may be required. The manager of the Landing Service reported the arrival of 31 vessels during the month. The tonnage of cargo landed and shipped Ly thn Service amounted to 2217, the gross earnings being £369 14s lid, and the net £IOB 12. 7d.
