AN ESSAY ON COURTING.
Courting iz a luxury, it iz salbul, il iz iso water, it iz a beveridgo, it iz a pla spell of the soul. '1 ho man who haz never courted has lived in vain ; ho haz been a blind m n among’ landskapes and waterskapes; he haz bean i deft' man in the land ov hand organs, aul by the side ot murmuring.’ canals. Courting iz like 2 little springs ov soft water that steal out from under a rock at the fut.ov a mo mil; in and run down the hill side by side / i singing and dansing and spattering ! each other, eddying and frothing and kaskading, now biding under a bank, now full ov sun, now full ov shudder, till h’nneby they jii.e, and then they go slow. lam in favor ov long courting ; it gives the parties a chance of finding out each uther’s trump cauls : it iz good exercise, and iz just as iuncrscut as 2 merino lambs. Courting iz like i strawberries and cream, wants (u bo did j slow, and then yu git the Haver, I i have saw folks git ackquainted, fall in ! luv, git married, settle down, and git I tew work in three w r eeks from date. This is jist the way some folks learn a trade, and akotmls for the grate number of almightey mean media-nicks we liav, i and the poor jobs they turn out. Perhaps it iz best i shod state some good advise to yung men who are about to court with a final view to matrimony, az it waz. In the first phase, yung man, yu want to get yme system al} rite, and then find a yung woman who iz willing tew be courted on the square. The next thing iz to find out how old she is, which yu kau do hi asking her, and she wi 1 1 say that she iz 19 years old, and this yu will find won’t be far from out ov the wa. The next best thing is to begin moderate ; say ouse every nite in the week for the first six months, increasing the dos; az the patient seems to require it. It is a first rate wa tew court the girl’s mother a little on the start, fur there is one thing a woman never diapises, and that is, a leetle good courting, if it iz dun strikly on the square. After the first year yu wdll begin to like the bizziness. 'there is one thing i alwus advise, and that is not to swop fotograffs oftner than pnze in 10 daze, unless you forget now the gal looks. Okasionally yu want tew look sorry, and draw in yme wind az tho you had pain, this will set the gal tow teazing yu tew find out what ails yu. Evening meeting are a good thing tu tend, it will keep yure religgion in (unc, and then if the gal happens tu be tin re by acksident she can ask yu to go bum with her. As a general thing i wouldn’t brag on other gals much when i was courting, it might look az tho’ yu knu tew much. If you will court three years in this wa, awl the time on the square, if you don’t sa it iz a leetle of the slikest time in you life, yu kan git measured for a hat at ray expense, and pa for it. Don’t court for mtmny, nor buty, nor relashuns, these things a re about as ousartin as the kerosene ile refining bizzuess, liable to git out of repair and bust at any minnii.
