THE TICHBORNE CLAIMANT.

Now that the claimant’s term of imprisonment is drawing to a close (says the Home News) his few remaining friend s are beginning tn agitate in his favor. It is pretty certain that nothing will induce the authorities to shorten his sentence, and that he will have to stay in Portsmouth convict to the bitter end. Yet there are sangaine people who still hope to obtain evidence to re-establish him in public opinion if not entirely restore him to his so-called rights. Great stress is still laid upon the other Arthur Orton supposed to to have been discoved in Australia, and at this moment an inmate ef Parramatta Asylum. A. special commission of enquiry is to be sent out to Australia to verify this fact, and on the strength of the evidence taken, which is somewhat prematurely assumed to be conclusive, public meetings are to bekl in this country to put the poor claimant right. For this it will only he necessary to obtain a special Act of Parliament. Meanwhile Orton continues to stack bricks in Portsmouth and lose flesh. His original twenty-four stone has already been reduced to eleven, but he is in the best possible health, thanks to the wholesome

limitations of his diet in prison. Ho only yearns for the day of his release, not because it will restore his rights, but from the pleasing prospecr ot owning a publichouse called the Tichborne Arms in the neighborhood of the Gun Club on Wormwood Scrubs.
