The Temuka Leader THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 31, 1882. THE LAW’S DELAY.
The Resident Magistrate is, wo believe, a Way on leave of absence, and will not sit boro for the next six weeks. So far as we can ascertain no substitute has been appointed to perform his duties in his absence, and the work will fall on the shoulders of the local Justices of the Peace.' These gentlemen’s jurisdiction is limited to £2y, and consequently no sum over that amount can be sued folia the meantime. Yesterday a complaint reached us to the effect that a resident of this town applied at the Courthouse for a summons for £23, but was told that it would be useless to issue it to him until the Resident Magistrate returned in six weeks’ time, as the Justices could not adjudicate in (he case, owing to the amount being beyond their jurisdiction, ihc amount hat> been due giticc 1360, and will have
to remain due now until the Resident Magistrate returns. This is a nice state of affairs. It is high time some steps were taken with regard to the administration of Justice in this district.
