TIMAETJ MARKETSMessrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week as follows : Horses—Their entry on Saturday comprised 71 head of all sorts, a very small proportion being really good, and notwithstanding a strong desire on the part of owners to sell at reasonable prices, they experienced great difficulty in effecting the sale of 22 head, principally hacks. At Stutlholme Junction on Monday last they entered and sold 10 head station horses, rather an inferior lot, and prices accordingly. They quote medium to good draughts, £25 to £35 ; ordinary, £l6 to £2O; hacks and light harnes horses, £ls to £2O for medium to good ; and from £5 for inferior.

Cattle—At the Washdyke on Monday, there was a full yard of store cattle, but no lines of any consequence changed hands. A considerable number of small lots, however', were satisfactorily disposed of, at 21s for calves, 40s to 45s for yearlings, and £5 17s 6d for well grown steers. They sold privately and at auction during the week 28 head fat cattle, at prices equal to 27s Gd per 1001 b. Sheep—They have very few transactions to report, business in this class of stock being still exceedingly quiet. They sold privately 100 fat merino wethers and 600 cross- bred ewes • and lambs, at satisfactory prices, Town Sales—At the Stone Stables, on Friday, they held a clearing sale of horses buggies, harness, etc. There was a good attendance of buyers, and prices on the whole were equal to expectations.
