TIMARU MARKETS. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week as follows : Horses. —45 draught and hack horses were on Saturday received at their yards for sale, but with few exceptions the quality of these were below the average, and in consequence prices realised were not high. They have to report the demand a shade better than last sale, but prices have in no way increased. They sold in all 26 bead at from £2B to £34 10s for heavy draughts ; from £lB to £3O for medium sorts ; ordinary and inferior hacks from £8 to £l4. Cattle.—There is rather abetter demand for store cattle and for good store 3 and 4-year-old steers satisfactory prices were obtainable. Last Monday, at the Washilyke yards, they y irded over 200 head, and sales were made as follows ; Calves at 22s ; and yearlings at 80s ; mixed cattle £3 to £4 15s; cows £4 to £B, according to quality, At the above prices they sold 109 head. Fat cattle— Present values are about from 25s to 26s per lOOibs. Sheep.—There is little doing in store sheep, and until after sheaiing but few lots are expected to change hands. They have made no sales of importance since last week, and prices are but little altered. At Washdyke last Monday they yarded a few small lots, and sold ci oss-bred ewes at 14s. Fat sheep arc at same value as last week.

Wool and Skins.—They held their usual fortnightly, sale last Wednesday, and catalogued over 1000 skins in addition to sundry bags and bales wool. They sold heavy butchers’ cross-bred skins at from Gs to Gs lid ; medium, 5s to Gs ; merinos, 4s to 5o Id ; 2 bales ordinary merino wool, at per lb, Messrs J. T. Ford and Co report:—On Friday October 6th, we held an extensive clearing sale of surplus stock at the Arowhenua station, Temuka. We had a

vei> go-k 1 attendance and every iot was disposed of at satisfactory prices. Horses sold at £l4, £lB, £l9. £22, and up to £26 each ; unbroken colts, £8 8s to £lO 10s ; ditto fillies, up to £l2 ; backs, £B, £lO, £ll, and £lB ; engine, 8 h.p., at £250 ; drays, Lll 10s and £l2 10s ; reapers and binders up to £22 ; McSherry drills up to £l4, and a variety of other useful farm implements at full values. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co. report— At the Addington yards on Wednesday, 2945 sheep and 685 head of cattle were yarded. Sheep—We sold prime cross-breds at 17s and 18s. good do at 15s 3d. Fat lambs— Best pens at from 9s to 10s, others from 3s to 7s Gd, according to quality. Cattle—A draft of fat steers at £8 ; do, half fat, £0 15s ; do, heifers, £6 10s. There was au average attendance of buyers on Thursday at the weekly sale of sheepskins which we held in our New Zealand Wool Stores. The demand was good, with a brisk competition. We catalogued 2942 skins, and disposed of them at prices equal to last week’s quotations. Butchers’cross-bred, large, Gs. 6s Gd, 7s; do do, second quality, 4s 4d, 5s 2d, Ga ; do merino, large, 5s lid, Gs sd, Gs 10d ; dodo, second quality, 3s lid, 4s 10d, 5s lid ; lambskins, lOd to Is 3d ; country cross-bred, large, 5s sd, Gs, 6s Gd , do do. medium, 2s 4d, 3s Id, 3s lid, 4s Bd, 5s 5d ; do do, small, Is 3d, Is 9d, 2s 4d ; do merino, large, 5s od, 5s lid, 6s Gd ; do do, medium, 2s scl 3s 2d, 3s lid, 4s Bcl, 5s 5d ; do do small, Is 3d, Is lOd, 2s sd. Fat and tallow—Bo packages were catalogued, and all sold. Fat, best quality, clean and well-saved, to 2jd per lb ; second quality, from to 2{jd pet lb. Tallow -A few small lots from 2|d to 2|c per lb for second quality, up to 3£d per lb for best quality. Hides and calfskins not sold.
