London, Aug, 8 6,17 a.m. The Khedire has notified that he intends to indemnify the sufferers by recent erents in Egypt. Tripoli is quiet. 2 p.m. Arabi lias formed an entrenched camp on the banks of Lake Menzaleh and has been reinforced there. The Turkish troops for Egypt wait at Rhodes, near Crete, in the JEgean Sea, pending the decision of the Conference, on the objection which has been raised to the apparent exercise by the British Government of supreme power and control in Egypt. Aug. 9, 6.10 a.m. At Philadelphia, 23 miles from Saris, in Asia Minor, the Cagues are raising funds for the assistance of Arabi. 4.44 p.m. In consequence of the water supply in Alexandria running short the allowance to the inhabitants is restricted. Greece will give its decision to the Conference tomorrow. The Turkish difficulty appears abating. The- Turkish troops rendezvous
at Rhodes, awaiting the completion of a convention with the British which the Conference of Powers will endorse. England and France still hesitate to accept Italy's proposals about the Canal. The Lascars at Bombay have resumed work. Eight spies have been caught in Alexandria. 3600 English militiamen have volunteered for service in Egypt, After tht 14th the water in Alexandria will be supplied to the inhabi - tants for certain hours on alternate days at the rate of twenty litres per head daily. Later. It is reported that the Abyssinian troops have assembled on the Egyptian , frontier, .and are prepared to co-operate with the British, hoping by this action to obtain a seaport. Aug. 10. The Sultan has signed a Proclamation denouncing Arabi, and approving of the military convention with England. The Orient has arrived at Alexandria. The French Parliament has been prorogued.
