The police have arrested in Dublin a cabman,.who is believed to have beet employed by the Phoenix Park assassins, and it is supposed that 4 clue to the murderers has. been obtained. I
" It is announced that Mr George Otto Trevelyan, Secretary to the Admiraltyj has been appointed Chief Secretary for; Ireland, but without a seat in the Cabinet,
Several persons recently arrived froni the United States have been arrested. by the police in Ireiand on suspicion of being concerned in the schemes of the Land League. May 10. i
The Dublin cabman who was yesterdayarrested on suspicion of being con-, cerned in the assassination of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke, has been released. His name is' Moore, and it has been ascertained that he has recently arrived from America 1 It is stated, however y that several further arrests have been made. A reward of £IO,OOO has been offered for the discovery of the murderers, and the police are sanguine of success. • ! The comments of the Press indicate: that the appointment of Mr G. O. Treveljan as Chief Secretaiy ; for Ireland has met with general approval both in England and Ireland. It is announced that Mr J. C. B. Hamilton, Accountant-General of the Admiralty, will succeed the late Mr Burke as Permanent Under-Secretary lor Ireland.'
