THE KING MEETING.

V The native meeting called together by Tawhaio, the Native, King commenced at Whatiwhatihce kst Monday, but nothing

of any imporfcace has yet taken place. Tawhaio, with some Europeans, went pigeon shooting, and that seems to be the most exciting thing 1 that has occurred yet. It is said the following petition is obtaining signatures: '"This petition to your Honorable House prays that you will look into our trouble, which is that our land dwellings hare passed away to sets of ten men (trustees), Most of us did not even see the taking of our land by these sets of ten men, and our ejectors Ironi our land and our dwel ings are unknown to us ; therefore we pray your Honorable House to protect us from the destruction these persons have brought upon us. We pray that some means be raised by which we may be restored "to our lands and our dwellings at this date." The sale of drink is prohibited at the meeting and also in the town of Alexandra iu the vicinity of which the meeting is held. The sale was first stopped at the request of Tawhaio, but some publicans of Alexandra interviewed him, and. he telegraphed to Mr Bryce to allow drink to be sold in Alexandra. Mr Rryce, however, has declined and the prohibition is enforced.
