DOWNFALL OF A PREACHER.
A correspondent of the Daily Telegraph writes :—A singular accident befel a Scotch clergyman while preaching in a Nonconformist chapel at Shepherd Tush on Sunday last. He In.da vigorous style, and showed himself vigorously fervent in driving home to his interested hearers the solemn words and moral of his text. Hands and eyes were brought into play in enforcing the winged words of the preacher, and now and airam he would lean las whole weight on the reading stand, gazing intently into the faces of his audience to deepen the impression of his counsels. While he was once thus gazing, the audience were startled by seeing the reading stand topple over the platform, followed by five preacher himscif.
