It has transpired that the respite which has been granted to Dr Lamson is due to the exertions of the Un ted States Government. It is now alleged that Dr Lamson is insane.
The market rate of discount has fallen to 2£ psr cent ; Bank rate 3. Adelaide, wheat, ex warehouse, has advanced to 54s 6d ; New Zealand do remains at 51s ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 37s 6d ; Australian tallow—Best mutton has advanced to 425, and best beef to 455. The total stock of tallow in London cn the Ist inst. wa,s 63u0. casks. Th« steamers, Yure, of 1558 tons,
of Bilbao, and the Douro came into collision off the west coast of Spain. Thirty-five of the passengers and crew of the Douro were saved, and 67 of those on board tue lure. Later. It is now stated t.iat 12b lives were saved from the Douro alone, but that the captain, and officers perished. Both vessels had a large number of passengers on board. T lie total loss of life has been ascertained to be 46.
The sculling match between Hanlan and Boyd for £IOOO on the Tyne today, resulted in a victory for the champion by four- lengths..

Melbourne, April 3
The following further intelligence regarding the, recent murder of Lieut. Lucraft, of H. M. S. Cormorant, is to hand. At the time of the occurrence, the Cormorant was visiting Espiritu Sancto, one of the New Hebrides Group, for the purpose of punishing the natives concerned in the massacre of the boats’ crew of the labor schooner Isabel, with whom was the late Mr L. H Mair, Government Agent, in November last. Lieut. Lucraft had landed with a party of seamen, and had successfuly arrested one of the Islanders who had taken part in the outrage, but while he was being taken under guard to the boat, the native struck one of the seamen who retaliated and killed him. A fight ensued with the Islanders, in which Lieut. Lucraft lost his life.

The statement regarding the arrest of nine sailors of H.M.S. Cormorant, in connection witlrthe death of Lieut. Lucraft, is declared to be without foundation. Beyond the fact that a strict investigation has been ordered, nothing farther has transpired.
