GRAIN.
Christchurch.— The anticipations of a disnp; Anting out-turn referred to in our list, continue to be but too surely confirmed. On .some properties instead of the yield being 40 to 45 bushels as is usual, not more than 20 to 25 bushels are being obtained. Wheat—The deficiency in yield above referred to combined with a keen demand for shipping parcels to meet heavy tonnage engagements of charterers, has had the effect of stiffening this market, and an advance of Id to 2d per bushel on last month’s quotations must be noted. Some heavy transactions have transpired, notably the sale of 10,000 sacks in one line, another of 9000 sacks, and a cargo for the ship Glenburn. The terms have not been disclosed, but 4s 5d to 4s 7d f.o.b. are supposed to be the prices paid. Oats—This market is in a very active state, and it would be difficult to forecast how prices will be ruling a month hence. Old oats are now almost entirely bought up, and disclosures of lightness and deficiency in the present crop, winch the threshing machines are making, have sent prices up from 2s sd, at which sales opened for this year’s harvest, to 3s, which s now readily obtainable. Barley —P rime malting is not in large supply, and 4s 3d to 4* 6d may be quoted as its value here, second qualities realising from 3d to 6d less. Descriptions suitable only for feed purposes have been enhanced in value by the sharp advance in oats, and are now worth 6d more than last mouth. Dunedin. Wheat Prime milling parcels sell readily at 4s 6d per bushel. Oats—Transactions by auction and privately have taken place at up to 2s lOd per bushel for good bright feed. Milling qualities have chaeged hands at 3s. Oamaru. —Wheat—Prime milling is worth about 4s 5d to 4s 6d f.o.b. Oats, as anticipated, are turning out a very short and inferior crop.. Prices are already considerably higher than at date of last report, Barley—This cereal is firmly held by farmers for 4s 6d and upwards for good quality. * Timaru —Wheat is in active demand, 4s to 4s 2d being freely given, and many ( growers are holding for a higher figure. The quality of the wheat is inferior to last season’s, and many parcels coming forward ai’e small and shrivelled, through being reaped before maturity. Oats —Numerous enquiries are being made, and owing to the unsettled state of the market farmers are disinclined to sell. The threshing of this cereal is only commencing. Sales of feed qualities have taken place at 2s Bd, f o.b. Barley—This grain is coining forward slowly, the quality in the district being light, For bright malting samples 3s 8d is offered in store, but growers display no disposition to quit at this figure. Invercargill. —Birley—Good, bright malting samples command 4s to 4s 3d in town. The new crop is good in favored localities. Oats—Better prices are ruling, as reference to quotations will show, but framers seem disposed to hold for even higher rates. Auckland. —Wheat—Prices remain at about 4s 6d to 4s Bd, but buyers are anxious to operate, believing present prices will not hold. Oats—New crop not yet to market ; for old, sellers quote 3s to 3s 31. Napier.- Wheat is selling at 4s for inferior, to 4s fid for samples suitable for milling. Oats —Good feed selling at 2s fid to 3s. Wanganui. —The grain market is generally active, and milting wheat is in demand at from 4s to 4s 2d. while a fair enquiry exists for oats at prices quoted. Blenheim.— ln sympathy with the advance in the Southern markets, oats have been actively dealt in at improved prices, and a good demand for export now exists at from 2s 4d ho 2s fid per bushel.
