TEMUKA PARK BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the abov .Board was held last Tuesday. PRESENT. ' Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Barker i Patersan and Austin. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meetin . were read and confirmed. THE OPIHI BRIDGE. 1 A communication having been receive* ' from the contractors claiming £3B, balance of contract monoy, and price of timbei left on the works after finishing tbe cou tract. It was resolved to compromise the matter by paying the contractors for the , timber, provided they would relinquisl their claim to the balance. The Chairman said that with regard tc the maintenance of the bridge, the Oountj Council had objected to maintain it, anc hod suggested that the Levels Road Boaic 1 and the Temnka Road Board shou'c maintain it between "them. The Leve's Road Board was quite willing to pay hali the cost of maintenance and give the control of it to the Temnka Road Board. It was agreed that the Levels Road Board be written to, asking if they would agree to allow any small repairs that may be needed from time to time to the. Opihi bridge, say up to the extent of £lO or £l2, to be done by. this Board, and if they wiil agree to recoup one-half the amount so expended. EXTENSION OF CONTRACT TIME, Mr Butler, contractor for Grant's Road, waited on the Board to ask for an Extension of time in consequence of his inability to get men during tbe harvest time, Mr Barker said that one month had been granted to all contractors during the harvest time. Mr Butler agreed to take one month's extension. Mr Butler also applied for payment for cutting gorse on the road which was not included in his contract. It was agreed to allow him £5, Mr Davis waited upon the Board to ask for an, extension of time of two months, to finish his contract on the Upper Swamp road. The farmers wanted men to do the harvest and he.could not refuse them. Mr Davis was. informed that one month had already been granted. INTERVIEW. MrHayhurst interviewed the Board to ask whether anything was to be done in the read opposite the Road Board OfficeHe had fences to make up and he wmiid like to make those fences sp as, to suit the new formation of the road. After some conversation Mr Hayhurst was informed that the work would be done at an early date. NUISANCES. MrHayhurst said lie would also wish to speak with regard to the sanitary < on-
ditiourf the town. He did not know what arrangements the Board made with the Inspector of Nuisances. Ha had never seen the Inspector of Nuisances since he had come to live in Temuka.
Mr Barker said the salary of the Inspector was not large, and that he could not be expected to go to every house.. People should report nuisances to him. Mr Hayhurst d d not think it was the duty of persons to run alter the Inspector. It would put people in the position of informers and cieate disunion between
neighbors. Mr Barker said that in large towns he often. saw notices in the papers calling the Inspector's attention to nuis 'nces.
Mr Hayhurst: Is the Inspector bound to search for nuisaives } The Chairmau : He is. M r Hayhurst: What I complain of is; that he dues not search for them. After some further convers tion the Chairman said they would remind theirofficer to look after nuisances, and Mr Hayhurst then withdrew. A letter from the Inspector of Nuisances, was read stating that the nuisance in Yine street complained of by Mr Thomson, was caused by drainage from the Temuka Hotel. The sewage was carried by a suitable drain from the hotel to the Vina street drain, where it became a stagnant, pool. He had to complain of the night-, man, and Mrs Louis had also complained.

CORRESPONDENCE, The following correspondence was read, and considered :■■ — A letter from Mr Waddell was read askn. jng for pipes to make a drain. The request was granted.. From Mr Bissett stating that he had;' been overcharged to the extent, of Is and "£d for rates by the Oiari Board of Con rsjsryators, which he., would not pay. It was. decided to accept Mr Bissett'st—cheque for theampimt he offered; Erom Dr Hayes stating that two cases s of typhoid fever had occurred during the month in the Temuka district. From. Mr Gann asking for leave to erect; a gate. Granted.. ROAD, REPAIRS; Mr Barker called attention, to, ths.. necessity of shingling Spring's road, an&i it was resolved; to, call tenders for t - the. work. UANGITATA FORDS< The only tender received fop keeping* the above fords in repair for 12. months* was that of W. Stengar, £2£> >: and. itrvrafc _ accepted. BOARD OF CONSERVATORS. On the application of Mr Messrs, Gladstone and Stewart were re-elected: members of the Orari Boa"d of Conservators. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment, and' the Board then adjourned;
