The ordinary monthly meeting, of the , Board was held in the Road Board Office „ Peel Forest, on the 20lh ipst. MEMBERS PRESENT. „ The Hon J Barton A. Acland,* Messrs., Roberts, Mackay, J. G. Dennistoun, C. G. Tripp, and J..Heney, This being the first meeting sipce the . election of the new members, ft was proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr- r Heney and carried—‘‘.That the Hon J? Barton Acland, be elected Chairman for.*, the present year.” MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting:, ' were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. . The following.correspondence was read , and considered : From the Under Secretary for Public-. Works, acknowledging receipt of the-.. Board’s letter of the sth January, in reference, to the, proposed site of the Railway station at Fairlie Creek. : From the District. Auditor, the books, vouchers, and accounts of the ’ Board be made up to the 31st December, and ready for his Audit at Geraldine on . Friday the 2Qth last. , From the Chief -Surveyor, stating that;, the area of section 32668 had been forwarded to the Chief Commissioner, and that the Crown Grant would be issued in. daa t co,arse. j The Clerk w ( as directed to jeply asking . ifthe issue of the grant could not be -delayed fqr the purpose of having the deviation of road line marked thereon. From Mr C. R. Shaw, forwarding plans of road deviations through section 22130 .. < Orari Gorge, and through section 9864, Orari Downs ; also a tracing of a proposed extension of road through section 24968 . and 249fi2 v ' * \ The Clerk was directed to write to the _ Chief Surveyorrequesting that instructions be given to the Surveyor to lay off - the proposed {extension on survey of the sections mentioned. : From Mr W. Smith, offering a rent for . the reserve at Peel Forest. Resolved—“ That the matter of leasing - the reserve be deterred for the present. From Mr M. Mitton, asking for pipes f to fo”in an entrance into section 25674. 1 The request was granted. J Resolved—“ That the clerk write to .'I the Colonial Secretary requesting that for 1 the future the audit of the Board's ac- 1 counts be held at the Road Board Office of the district, inasmuch as great in con— a venience arises from the clerk haying ■

Resolved—'“ That all contractors under the Board be granted six weeks extension of time in order to let their men go to the harvest.” The Board agreed unanimously that a b.onus of £26 be granted to Mr Irvine in addition to his salary for the past year. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the creek at the new concrete bridge in Peel Forest, to ascertain if any protective works are required ; also, to have a substantial gate hung at the reserve at Peel Forest, and a culvert placed across the drain. . accounts.
