LATE CABLE NEWS.
[By Telegraph.] London, Dec. 27. A serious accident has occurred in Cornwall. A bazaar y/as being held in a chapel, the visitors numbering 300, when the flooring,- suddently collapsed, precipitating those who were above ground and bringing down the whole flooring upon the people underneath, A fearful scene followed. Neighbors assembled to render all possible assistance, but it was some time before the survivors could be extricated and;tho dpad t bodies collected together, The riots in Warsaw', originated in a church, owing to the conduct of a Jewish pickpocket. Houses aud shops h?,ve been pillaged by the rioters, and numbers of persons robbed and insulted. Six hundred rioters have been, arrested and imprisoned. A proposal made to curtail the duration of the judicial vacation is strongly, opposed by the Judges. They contend that the large amount of work which they have te get through during the year renders it absolutely necessary that they should have a reasonably long period of holidays. The recent terrible catastrophe at the Ring Theatre, Vienna, has excited* wide spread'sympathy. In, Vienna the sum of 100,030 florins has been subscribed for the relief of the, sufferers.
The police in attempting to suppress an outbreak of negro rioters, in South Carolina met with an obstinate resistance. Two constables were killed. The United States Government has despatched troeps to the spot, to put a stop to, the disturbance. Smallpox has increased to an alarming extent in the Unit states. It is feared that several immigrant steamers from Europe to America have been lost. The Newgate prison has been abolished, Prince Bismarck has appealed to the Great Powers to arrive at some conclusion as to the real position occupied; by the Pope. It is believed that this course has been taken, in consequence of the pope’s declaration on Christmas, Eve, vdieo receiving. Cardin ala and members of the Sacred College, that his position had become intolerable, and that h,e was practically a prisoner at the Vatican. The result of Prince Bismarck's appeal is looked forward to with much interest.
