The Promoters having had tha very valuable pcopc: I y (as described below) offered to them by the Proprietor, and having made very sii'isfjictorv arrangements for the purchase or lease of the same, they have determined to place the property, and the ad wantages connected with it, before the Public, and to develop what, in their opinion must prove to be a most successful undertaking, and one that will prove of immense advantage to tbe District of South Canterbury. A small amount of capital will be. required to purchase the necessary machinery and 10 put the mine in good working order, so that the Company will be able to pay dividends shortly after starting. The shaft is limbered from the surface. The other shaft- referred to (half a chain from the main shaft) is 7ft by 4ft wide and 45ft de p, and is well timbered, and has been sunk through two scams of coal of sft and 4ft respectively on ip a 2ft din seam. Eire clay is found m large quantities, and is pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapied for pottery and sanitary . pipes, gas retorts, fire-bricks, Ac. 'The coal is easily obtained, and ig of tbe finest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and its superiority for the projuctipu of gas and for steam purposes has! ceen proved by reliable trsis.
