The liberaled prisoners have settled down quietly in their homes, and appear completely disappointed with the course of th J result of affairs, and begin to fear their expectations as to Te Whiii’s supernatural powers will never be realised. Government have received an important telegram from Mr Bryce, intimating that Te Whili’s chief officer had come spontaneously to him and placed in his hand the mere, or greenstone baton which formed his token of office, and signified to Mr Bryce that he resigned all authority Over the natives.
