TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.

During the past three months great changes have taken place in Temuka, very handsome villa residences and places of business having been erected We notice ope in particular, the property of Mr Win. Storey, which, when completed, will be. one of the most imposing in the township. Although, when finished, the block will contain six shops and offices, at present only three have been erected. The centre-block comprises two simps, with work-offices at the b ictc. It will, we understand, le occupied by Messrs W. Storey and Co., as tailors, drapers, and outfitters. The frontage of the complete building will be 82 feet, divided into six shops, 18ft deep and 12ft high. The appearance of the facade is very handsome ; the tablet is 2ft 9in. wide, ornamented with a bold cornice, above which is a panelled blocking course. The centre-piece is a panelled tablet filled in, with letters of gold, ‘ W. Storey and Co’, over which is a pediment ornamented with bold mouldings and dentels, and massive ornamented vases. On each, side the pediment is finished with panelled pedestals, balustrading.an 1 vases. The total height is 28ft. As these are only three shops out of the six to be built, we would suggest to the proprietor to build the fourth on the north side, to give the building a uniform app Q arunce. Praise is due to the contractors, Messrs Clinch and Lloyd, for the manner in which they have executed their contract. The architect is Mr vV. J. N. Uptou, of this township.
