A STRANGE SCENE.
A strange scene was witnessed in Cork
recently. Some cattle had been seized for rent at Middleton, County Cork, and | had been driven into the town for safety, j The owners of the cattle went into the j town and paid the amount of the debt i claimed by the landlord. The members j of the Land League, however, having’ consulted upon the business, determined to have a demonstration over the release of the poor beasts. The services of a band were procured, and the unusual spectacle ot a procession led by a fife and drum baud and made up of a motley crowd with a farm horse and eight or nine half-starved cows, bedecked witli streamers of green riband was witnessed in the streets. The cattle were Iriven off to the farms of their owners, fifteen miles from Cork. Tiie produce of the landlord, Mr William Humphries, on whose property the seizure of the cattle was made, was ‘ Boycotted ’ at the Middleton market, and had to return home unsold.
