ATTEMPTED MURDER.

News from New Caledonia has been received that on the night of the 11th May, a horrible attempt at murder' was committed near the place called Les Hauls Forneaux, Noumea. About 1 o'clock a.mcries of murder were heard in a house, and several persons went to the spot and broke in the door. A frightful spectacle caught their gaze. The husband sat on his wife's body with a kuife in his right hand, and tried to cut her throat. The man was arrested and tied with ropes, but during the time that the people were running for! help and medical aid to the wounded woman, he escaped. He was found some time afterwards in a house at Noumea. It is thought that the wounds, will not occasion the death of the woman.
