TEMUKA SPARROW CLUB.

A Committee meeting of the Temuka. Sparrow Club was held on Tuesday evening last in the Temuka Road Board office. Present—Messrs Taibot (Chairman), R. A Barker, W. Wright, Gilliatt, E. Pilbrow, and W Wheelband. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. An account for £lB 2s 6d, received from Messrs Kempthprne and Prosser for poison, was passed for payment. A letter was read from "Mr E.. Moasman, tendering his resignation as a member of the Committee. The meeting then elected Mr Joseph Woodhead on the Committee., The Secretary stated that the Secretary to the Gapes’ Valley Sp »r- ' row Club wished to know if that. Club, could obtain, a small quantity of poison, from the Temuka Club. The Secretary ;also stated it was-proposed in the Gapes’ Valley district for farmers to poison theirown wheat. After considerable discussion, the foil owing' resolution: was carried—‘That while the Temuka Cl üb.are ghd to hear that active steps are being, taken in, the (Japes’ Va\ley district for, the destruction of small birds, regret that they are. unable to accede to their request for po son, but would be glad to supply any> Club with poisoned wheat at 15s perbushel.” The Chairman stated that fifty ounces of strychnine hud been obtained! from Messrs Kempthorne and Prosser,, and that he had assisted Mr Bo ton in preparing the first lot of grain, and considered the Club should now supply and forward the grain to any part of South, Canterbury, so that farmers could avail themselves of the facilities offered them

by the establishment of the Club. The following resolutions were ihen passed. — •‘That the poisoned grain be sold in any quantities to suit purchasers.” “ That the Secretary ascertain the cost of 100 second-hand canvas bags, various sizes ; and also the cost of 200 cards with the •word ‘ poison ’ printed in red thereon.” “That the Secretary advertise that poi soned grain can be obtained from the Club at 16s to non-members, a d 13s to members of the Club, purchasers to find their own bags.” The meeting then terminated.
